The Old Fashioned, as you might guess, is a very old cocktail, with its creation dating back to the early 1800’s. A book called Jerry Thomas’ Bartenders Guide: How To Mix Drinks is the first found origin of the cocktail, however a private social club called The Pendennis Club  in Louisville, Kentucky, have claimed that their bartender James E. Pepper created the drink in 1881. He then reportedly brought it to the highly esteemed Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York where it then became popular. There have been a lot of various of the cocktail throughout the years, with many added absinthe, curacao and maraschino liqueur. The name ‘Old Fashioned’ now refers to the first variation of the drink, with whiskey, bitters, sugar and water.

The drink has recently now come back into popularity with the infamous character Don Draper frequently being seen drinking the cocktail in the 60’s based television show Mad Men.  We have, alike many others, created another variation of the cocktail calling ours the Cold Fashioned, as it has a kick of our Kuka Coffee Espresso shot in it. The Kuka adds a blend of smoothness to the rich and silky drink.

We recommend using Octomore Scotch Whiskey because it has been named 'the most heavily peated single malt whisky in the world'. The barley used to make the drink is exclusively grown in Scotland, and the company is the largest private employer on Islay with around sixty jobs on the island of Islay.

We use Angostura Bitters for our recipe as it is the world’s top selling bitters, originating from Venezuela in 1824. The bitters was originally used as a medical elixir for soldiers, however in 1850 when it was first sold in England it then became used for cocktails and food. We love the drinks iconic taste which made it win ‘Number 1 Trending Bitters’
